Our Passion: The Kids

Since 1971, OCYSF – through the generosity of its Board Members and community donors who attend this banquet – has been passionately dedicated to achieving one purpose: ensuring young student-athletes realize their hopes and dreams.

In 2023, OCYSF has funded the following programs:

  1. Surf & Turf Therapy. OYSF provided funding for adapting surfboards, wetsuits, & beach wheelchairs for non-traditional therapeutic activities – surfing and horseback riding – for children & adults with cognitive & physical disabilities.
  2. Kevin Armstrong MD Memorial Sports Foundation (RunStrong Program). OCYSF purchases 200 pairs of running shoes for intermediate students to participate in a program that incorporates a daily running regimen and culminates with a healthy competition among students from Santa Ana schools.
  3. Girls on the Run. OCYSF sponsors 3rd-8th grade girls in a running & mentoring curriculum emphasizing self-esteem, character, and positive relationships, culminating in a 5k Run in Costa Mesa.
  4. Higher Ground Youth & Family Services. Higher Ground in Anaheim offers after-school & weekend programs for at-risk youth and their families. OCYSF funded a pitching machine, bats, balls, gloves, uniforms & field improvements for Higher Ground’s baseball program.
  5. ESP Education & Leadership Institute by the Business of Success Beyond Sports (BOSS). OCYSF sponsors young men from OC in the BOSS program, leveraging the power of sports to focus on the skills necessary to achieve success in college & beyond with emphasis on critical thinking and writing.
  6. California Showcase – Opportunity through Football. OCYSF funds former UCLA Football Coach Terry Donahue’s California Showcase, a 1-day tryout for local HS football players at the Great Park, Irvine in front of community, NAIA, Division II & III college football coaches.
  7. The Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders. OCYSF purchases sports equipment & clothing for children to use at the CAND facility in Santa Ana, in affiliation with UCI, Chapman University, CHOC, Thompson Family Foundation, and Children & Families Commission of OC.
  8. Scholar’s Hope Foundation. OCYSF funds a summer camp with a sports-related environment that teaches disadvantaged youth in Huntington Beach how to overcome problems, create trust, and grow.
