OCYSF takes Costa Mesa’s “SOY” Save Our Youth to the Angels Game
Since its beginnings in 1971, the Orange County Youth Sports Foundation, through the generosity of its members and the encouragement of the community, has been dedicated to one passion – helping young people who sometimes lack the resources to make their hopes and dreams a reality.
For example, the Southeast Santa Ana Little League had no funds to replace threadbare uniforms and was seeing its dispirited participants prepare to disband. The struggling league was left out of the Southern California-wide disbursement of the surplus funds of the 1984 Olympic Games, funds earmarked to aid youth sports. Consequently, the league was losing its battle to remain self-sufficient.
Hearing of the league’s needs, Orange County Youth Sports Foundation offered its assistance to parents and volunteers who were working to give the community’s youth a chance to learn leadership, teamwork and baseball. OCYSF’s efforts were aimed at increasing the number of players, promoting community involvement, improving playing conditions, regenerating enthusiasm and enabling the Southeast Santa Ana Little League to stand on its own.
In just two years, the league doubled in size. The upgraded equipment and playing conditions brought smiles to the faces of children, parents, neighbors and to OCYSF’s active and supportive membership.
The Orange County Youth Sports Foundation has taken on numerous other projects designed to support and assist those who need a hand.
More than $1 million in grants has been given to the community and its youth since 1971.
