Selänne began his professional career in Finland with Jokerit in the SM-liiga before being drafted by the Winnipeg Jets as the 10th overall pick in the 1988 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut in the 1992-1993 season, setting a rookie record with 76 goals and winning the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league’s top rookie.
