“It’s for the Kids!”
The Orange County Youth Sports Foundation is honored to welcome you to the 48th “Sportsperson of the Year” Banquet. Tonight, we honor success and accomplishment, encourage the continued journey of student athletes, recognize programs with mutually shared visions, and collaborate with a giving and caring community to generate the financial resources that can impact the present situation of a young person, along with optimism for a brighter future!
Through the years OCYSF has honored local legends and nationally recognized figures within the sports community. The “Who’s Who” list includes Jerry West, Dick Enberg, Rod Carew, John Robinson, Gene Autry, Janet Evans, Ann Meyers Drysdale, Bob Costas, Mike Scioscia, Tommy Lasorda, and Teemu Selanne to name a few. This evening, we have the pleasure of adding to that amazing roster one of the most influential voices in not only sports broadcasting, but sports media – Colin Cowherd!
We are grateful for Colin’s participation tonight, along with his belief in the importance of youth sports, and support for OCYSF. His presentation this evening, followed by audience interaction during a Q&A session, will allow us to witness what makes Colin such an important part of the landscape of sports.
OCYSF was initially formed in 1971. As it was then, it remains a group comprised of local business owners and other professionals across the spectrum. Driven by a strong philanthropic commitment, each has been positively impacted during their professional and personal journeys from the influence of sports. That reality is an underlying inspiration and motivator for each of our members!
The importance of participation in youth sports is not measured by championships or personal performances, rather it can be done so via the long-term impact they can have on a singular life.
Since our inception in 1971, OCYSF has contributed over $2.5 million to local youth sports programs and scholarships, due in large part to the generosity and support of like-minded folks within this great banquet hall this evening. You will hear about some of those programs and efforts in greater detail later as the night moves along.
We are proud of what the current Board and alumni of the OCYSF has accomplished for over five decades, though much work remains in providing opportunities to the disadvantaged youth throughout the Orange County community. Our thanks, and appreciation, for your time and resources as those efforts continue!
Enjoy the evening with friends and perhaps some new acquaintances! And remember, “It’s for the Kids!”
