How have sports impacted your life?:
“Playing and coaching sports develops the most important traits in life: Hard work, preparation, loyalty, teamwork, and competitive passion.”
What year and why did you join the OCYSF Board?
“2019 As I got older, and my career began to wind down, I wanted to dedicate time and energy to a non-profit organization with like-minded people who support a worthy cause. The OCYSF is a good fit, as it focuses its resource on youth sports, which has been very important to me as a player, coach and father.”
In your own words, what does the OCYSF Mission Statement mean?
“The Orange County Youth Sports Foundation is comprised of athletes, coaches and sports enthusiasts dedicated to supporting, enhancing and funding sports opportunities for Orange County youth.”

Daniel Joseph Hess is a seasoned legal professional with over three decades of experience in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Admitted to the California State Bar in 1989, he has dedicated his career to upholding justice and serving the community.

Throughout his tenure, Hess has been involved in prosecuting high-profile cases, including the 2004 trial of Gregory Haidl and others, where he delivered compelling opening statements.

His expertise extends to areas such as vehicle theft and fraud, as evidenced by his presentation to the Orange County Auto Theft Investigators Association in 2016.

In addition to his prosecutorial work, Hess has contributed to the legal community by sharing his knowledge on case presentation and the impacts of legislative changes like Proposition 47.

His commitment to justice and public safety has been a cornerstone of his career.
