“Work hard to be the best that you can be but stop to enjoy it along the way. You never know when it will end. Take advantage of opportunities presented to you and help others who may not have similar opportunities.”
How have sports impacted your life?:
“Beyond just helping to pay for my college education and the numerous relationships and friends I developed along the way playing sports, it taught me many life lessons including the value of hard work, how to function as a team, how to overcome adversity, how to balance competing priorities and numerous other valuable lessons.”

In your own words, what does the OCYSF Mission Statement mean?
“Providing opportunities and resources that allow sports to have a positive impact on the lives of children throughout Orange County.”

Mark Hardtke is the Region President for Orange County and San Diego at The Northern Trust Company. He leads the Wealth Management division and has over 41 years of experience in financial services, specializing in trust, investments, taxation, insurance, and banking. Mark’s expertise also extends to generational wealth transfer tactics and fiduciary responsibility, ensuring comprehensive financial planning and wealth management services for his clients.

Mark began his career at Northern Trust in Chicago and later transferred to Southern California in 1989 to help establish the Orange County office. His dedication and leadership have earned him various senior positions, including Senior Vice President, Managing Director of the Wealth Management Group, and former Senior Fiduciary Officer for Trust and Estate Services in the Orange County region.

He holds a B.S. in Accounting from Valparaiso University and an M.B.A. in Finance from DePaul University. Additionally, he is a graduate of the National Trust School and Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University. Mark also holds the ABA’s designation as a Certified Financial Services Counselor and is a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor.

Outside of his professional career, Mark is actively involved in community service. He serves on several boards, including Hoag Hospital’s Foundation Board, where he is the Investment Committee Chair. Mark’s dedication to philanthropy extends to organizations such as the Orange Coast Estate Planning Council, Valparaiso University’s Athletic Advisory Board, Chapman University’s Endowment Committee, UCI’s Professional Advisory Council, and the United Way’s Tocqueville Society.

Mark has been a member of the Orange County Youth Sports Foundation (OCYSF) Board since the 1990s, where he has held roles such as Past President, Treasurer, and Grants Committee Chair. His involvement in OCYSF reflects his belief that sports have the power to positively impact the lives of children. Mark’s passion for sports began during his youth when he played baseball through college and basketball through high school. He has also coached numerous youth baseball and basketball teams.

Mark, his wife Cheryl, and their five children and three grandchildren reside in Mission Viejo, California. When he’s not working, Mark enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.
