Bert Blyleven, born Rik Aalbert Blyleven on April 6, 1951, in Zeist, Netherlands, is a former professional baseball pitcher known for his exceptional career in Major League Baseball (MLB). Blyleven moved to the United States at a young age and grew up in Garden Grove, California. He attended Santiago High School, where he excelled in baseball and caught the attention of major league scouts.

Blyleven was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the third round of the 1969 MLB Draft and made his MLB debut in 1970 at the age of 19. Known for his devastating curveball and impressive strikeout ability, Blyleven quickly established himself as one of the premier pitchers in the league. Throughout his 22-year career, he played for several teams, including the Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Indians, and California Angels.

Blyleven achieved numerous milestones during his career, including over 3,700 strikeouts and 287 wins. He was selected to two All-Star teams and won two World Series championships, one with the Pirates in 1979 and another with the Twins in 1987. Blyleven’s consistency and durability on the mound earned him induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011.
